This guide shows you how to measure a dog, a cat and a person in a few minutes, how our sizes are organised, how to choose between two sizes, and what to do if the first size is not perfect. If you would like a personal recommendation, email your measurements and the product name to <a href=\"mailto:support@jerseyden.shop\">support@jerseyden.shop</a>; we reply within 24 hours on business days.</p>\n<section class=\"policy-summary\">\n<h2>Sizing at a glance</h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dog jerseys and hoodies:</strong> XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL (the harness-ready Leash Legend jersey: L, XL, 2XL).</li>\n<li><strong>Cat jerseys:</strong> XS, S, M, L.</li>\n<li><strong>Owner jerseys and hoodies:</strong> unisex S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, relaxed fit.</li>\n<li><strong>Bandanas:</strong> S, M, L by neck size. <strong>Throw blanket:</strong> 50 x 60 in or 60 x 80 in. <strong>Bowl:</strong> Small or Large. <strong>Cap:</strong> one adjustable size.</li>\n<li><strong>Key rule:</strong> size pets by measurement, not by breed or weight.</li>\n<li><strong>Wrong size?</strong> Free exchange within 60 days of delivery, with a free return label.</li>\n</ul>\n</section>\n<h2>1. What you need</h2>\n<p>A soft fabric tape measure (the kind used for sewing) is ideal. No tape? Use a piece of string or a phone charging cable, mark it with your fingers, then lay it along a ruler or a metal tape. You also need a few treats and, ideally, a second person to keep the pet still and happy. Measure in inches or centimetres, whichever you prefer; just tell us which when you email.</p>\n<p>Measure with your pet standing on all four paws, head level, on a flat floor. A pet that is sitting, lying down or stretching gives a back length that is too short or too long.</p>\n<h2>2. How to measure a dog</h2>\n<h3>Back length</h3>\n<p>Find the base of the neck, the point where a collar naturally rests at the top of the shoulders. Run the tape along the spine to the base of the tail, where the tail meets the body. Do not include the tail itself. This is the most important measurement for a jersey, because it decides whether the number on the back is fully visible and whether the hem clears the tail.</p>\n<h3>Chest girth</h3>\n<p>Wrap the tape around the widest part of the ribcage, usually just behind the front legs. Keep it snug against the coat without pressing into it; you should be able to slide one flat finger under the tape. For fluffy coats, gently press the tape through the fluff to the body, then let it out slightly.</p>\n<h3>Neck girth</h3>\n<p>Measure around the neck where the collar sits. You need this for bandanas, and it helps us check the fit of the neck opening for dogs with very thick necks, such as bulldog types.</p>\n<h3>If your dog wears a harness</h3>\n<p>Decide whether the jersey goes over or under the harness. If the jersey goes <em>over</em> the harness, measure the chest girth over the harness. If the harness goes over the jersey, measure without it. The Leash Legend 12 jersey has a reinforced slot for the D-ring of a back-clip harness worn underneath; front-clip harnesses work with any jersey worn under the harness.</p>\n<h3>Tips for wriggly pets</h3>\n<p>Measure after a walk or play session, when your pet is calmer. Let your pet sniff the tape first. Ask a helper to hold a treat at nose height so the head stays level. Take each measurement twice and use the average; if the two numbers differ a lot, measure a third time.</p>\n<h2>3. How to measure a cat</h2>\n<p>Cats rarely stand still for a tape measure, so be quick and keep the treats coming. Measure the back length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, and the chest girth just behind the front legs, the same way as for a dog. If your cat will not cooperate, measure a cat harness or a piece of clothing that fits well, or measure in two short sessions. A cat&#8217;s fur can make the chest look bigger than it is; press gently through the coat.</p>\n<p>Most adult cats wear S or M. XS suits small adult cats, and L suits large breeds or cats with a lot of fluff. We do not recommend jerseys for young kittens.</p>\n<h2>4. How our pet sizes are organised</h2>\n<p>Our pet sizes form a simple ladder: each size up adds both back length and chest room. That means a single measurement is rarely enough on its own. A dog with a long back and a slim chest (a dachshund, for example) and a dog with a short back and a deep chest (a bulldog type) can have the same chest girth and still need different sizes, or different cuts.</p>\n<table class=\"policy-table\">\n<caption>Choosing between pet sizes</caption>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th scope=\"col\">What your measurements show</th>\n<th scope=\"col\">What to choose</th>\n</tr>\n</thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Both back length and chest point to the same size</td>\n<td>That size.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Chest points to the larger size, back to the smaller</td>\n<td>The larger size. A tight chest is uncomfortable; a slightly long back is fine.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Back points to the larger size, chest to the smaller</td>\n<td>Usually the larger size; or a sleeveless tank or vest, which is more forgiving in length.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Between two sizes and wearing it over a harness</td>\n<td>The larger size.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Between two sizes, slim build, short coat</td>\n<td>The smaller size usually stays neater; email us if unsure.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Puppy still growing</td>\n<td>The size that fits now. A jersey that is too big can catch on legs and furniture.</td>\n</tr>\n</tbody>\n</table>\n<p>Not sure which size your measurements point to? Email us the back length, chest girth and the product you like, and we will recommend a size within 24 hours on business days.</p>\n<h2>5. How the cuts fit differently</h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mesh jerseys</strong> (Good Boy 01, custom mesh jerseys) are light and have a little give; they fit true to size.</li>\n<li><strong>Tee-cut and stretch-neck jerseys</strong> (Couch MVP 00, Whiskers 14) are soft knits with more stretch; a good choice when a dog is between sizes and slim.</li>\n<li><strong>Raglan jerseys</strong> (Zoomies Club 99) allow more shoulder movement; ideal for broad, active dogs.</li>\n<li><strong>Ringers</strong> (Treat Squad 23, Box Seat 04) have rib bands at the neck and arms that hold their shape; fit true to size.</li>\n<li><strong>Tanks and vests</strong> (Fetch 08, Laser Chaser 88) have no sleeves and wide armholes; the most forgiving fit and the easiest to put on.</li>\n<li><strong>Long-sleeve jerseys</strong> (Den Team 07, Sunbeam Squad 03) have sleeves that end above the paws; check that your pet&#8217;s front legs are not unusually short or long.</li>\n<li><strong>Fleece dog hoodie</strong>: thicker fabric that sits a little closer; between sizes, choose the larger one.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Body shapes that need extra care</h2>\n<p>Some builds make sizing trickier. If your pet matches one of these, measure carefully and consider emailing us before ordering:</p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Deep chest, narrow waist</strong> (greyhounds, whippets, boxers, many pit mixes): the chest decides the size; the jersey will be a little loose at the waist, which is normal.</li>\n<li><strong>Long back, short legs</strong> (dachshunds, corgis, bassets): back length often points to a larger size than the chest; a tank or vest is the most forgiving.</li>\n<li><strong>Broad, muscular shoulders</strong> (bulldog and bully types, Staffordshire mixes): choose the raglan or a tank, and check the neck girth too.</li>\n<li><strong>Thick double coats</strong> (huskies, shepherds, chow types): press the tape through the coat; a mesh jersey or tank keeps them cooler.</li>\n<li><strong>Very small dogs</strong> (Chihuahuas, toy breeds): XS usually fits; check that the armholes are not too close to the legs on long-sleeve styles.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>6. Bandanas</h2>\n<p>Bandanas are sized by neck girth. Measure where the collar sits and add about two fingers of room. Size S suits cats and toy dogs, M most medium dogs, and L large and giant dogs. Bandanas tie at the back or slide over a flat collar; always tie loosely, and remove the bandana when your pet is alone or in a crate.</p>\n<h2>7. How to choose an owner size</h2>\n<p>Owner jerseys and hoodies are unisex with a relaxed fit, in sizes S to 3XL. The easiest method:</p>\n<ol>\n<li>Take a t-shirt you like the fit of and lay it flat on a table.</li>\n<li>Measure straight across the chest, from one armpit seam to the other.</li>\n<li>Measure the length from the highest point of the shoulder to the hem.</li>\n<li>Choose the size you normally wear in t-shirts; email us the two measurements if you want us to confirm.</li>\n</ol>\n<p>Hoodies leave room for a layer underneath; for a closer fit take your usual size, for an oversized look go one up. The raglan and ringer jerseys follow the same sizing as the jersey tee. Buying a gift? The recipient&#8217;s usual t-shirt size is the best guide.</p>\n<h2>8. Matching sets</h2>\n<p>In a <a href=\"/collections/matching-sets/\">Pet &amp; Owner Set</a> you choose the pet size and the owner size separately; every combination is available. Measure the pet and check the owner&#8217;s t-shirt size before ordering. If one piece does not fit, you can exchange just that piece within 60 days of delivery.</p>\n<h2>9. Size add-ons</h2>\n<p>A few larger sizes cost a little more because they use more fabric: pet 2XL is $3 more, owner 2XL $2 more and owner 3XL $4 more. The price updates on the product page as soon as you choose the size. The large ceramic bowl is $6 more than the small one, and the 60 x 80 in throw is $15 more than the 50 x 60 in.</p>\n<h2>10. Checking the fit when it arrives</h2>\n<ul>\n<li>You can slide two fingers under the jersey at the chest and neck.</li>\n<li>Your pet walks, sits and lies down normally, without the jersey riding up into the armpits.</li>\n<li>The hem ends before the base of the tail and, for male dogs, clears the belly.</li>\n<li>The number on the back is fully visible and not folded over the sides.</li>\n<li>Your pet is relaxed; if it freezes, scratches or tries to remove the jersey, take it off and try again later with treats, or exchange it for a tank, vest or bandana.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>11. If the size is not right</h2>\n<p>Email <a href=\"mailto:support@jerseyden.shop\">support@jerseyden.shop</a> within 60 days of delivery with your order number and the new size you want. We send a free return label and ship the new size free, including for personalised jerseys, which are reprinted with the same name and number. Tell us what did not fit (too tight at the chest, too long in the back) and we will help you choose the next size. Your measurement notes</h2>\n<p>Write your pet&#8217;s measurements down and keep them with your order email; you will want them for the next jersey, a bandana or a gift from a friend.</p>\n<table class=\"policy-table\">\n<caption>What to record for each pet and person</caption>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th scope=\"col\">Measurement</th>\n<th scope=\"col\">Who it is for</th>\n<th scope=\"col\">Used for</th>\n</tr>\n</thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Back length (neck base to tail base)</td>\n<td>Dogs and cats</td>\n<td>All pet jerseys and hoodies</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Chest girth (widest part, behind front legs)</td>\n<td>Dogs and cats</td>\n<td>All pet jerseys and hoodies</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Chest girth over harness</td>\n<td>Dogs wearing a harness under the jersey</td>\n<td>Leash Legend 12 and any jersey worn over a harness</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Neck girth</td>\n<td>Dogs and cats</td>\n<td>Bandanas</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>T-shirt chest width and length</td>\n<td>Owners</td>\n<td>Owner jerseys and hoodies</td>\n</tr>\n</tbody>\n</table>\n<h2>13.
